In fact, we didn’t even know what CSS was. Things are different now, and I don’t think that method will get you very far.
Of course you can always take a trip to Barnes and Noble or Borders bookstore. Not a bad idea. There are likely to be about 5 – 10 different books, ranging in size from 400 to 1,000 pages. All the different types of Dreamweaver Bibles to Dreamweaver CS4 for Dummies.
While getting a good book isn’t a bad idea, it’s going to take you quite a long time to drudge through the pages and learn everything there is to know. It may be a good reference in the long run, but reading is not the way most of us learn to actually do something.
Have you thought of using video tutorials?
Tutorials Dreamweaver is a site that is dedicated to reviewing some of the best video learning programs out there so you can learn and use to full capacity, Dreamweaver CS4. Let’s face it, most people only ever learn to use 5-10% of the full power of any given software program.
You can’t afford to do that with an HTML editor like this. With literally trillions of pages indexed in the search engines, you have to make your site stand out and retain vistors. In order to do that, you are going to need to learn 90-100% of what CS4 is capable of doing.
So, what are the best video tutorials that you can use?
#1 Choice – AskBrianWood – I like this a lot. Brian is a certified Adobe instructor, so he knows his stuff. He has written 4 books on Dreamweaver, and has an Awesome help desk – so you are “never stuck.” There are 120+ videos, cover all topics totalling over 11 hours worth of time. This is really good stuff, and you can’t go wrong with Brian.
#2 Choice – Dreamweaver Made Simple – I like this a lot too for several factors. The cost is very reasonable… not much more than a book. It is very thorough in the lessons. The lessons are mostly complete and covers most bases. There is GREAT support if you have questions while using CS4. There are lifetime updates.
Other Choices:
There is a set of online videos called Dreamweaver Video Tutorials. The cost is reasonable, but it doesn’t seem like there is much content in the videos. Many of the videos are just 2 to 3 minutes long. Their website doesn’t sell the fact that they are great programmers either.
YouTube videos – There are some online videos on YouTube, but you will never learn to use Dreamweaver that way. These are really only useful if you have a specific question and want to watch a video on something like adding a faveicon or controlling typeography. You need a complete tutorial.
Lynda.com has some online videos, but they are all over the place, covering things back in Dreamweaver 8 and CS3. While there may be some good nuggets of information, you need to focus on using the newest version – CS4.
Don’t even think about using the Video Professor. Those are overpriced and you will learn very little. I have heard too many people who get forced into a monthly payment system of $100 or more per month.
The bottom line for Tutorials Dreamweaver – you cannot go wrong with AskBrianWood. Any other choice and you will wonder what you were missing out on.
